7 post-workout snacks you need to try!

It is important to keep your body fuelled after a good workout which means you should be consuming more protein. Exercise makes your muscle protein breakdown which is why you need to have the right amount of protein after exercise, as it gives your body the amino acids it needs to build and repair these proteins.

To help give you some inspiration for some tasty snacks post-workout, we’ve compiled 7 of our favourites for you. Have a read and give them a try next time you’ve worked out.

Chicken and Avocado Salad

Chicken is a great source of protein, so it will help you post-workout. Plus, adding avocado means adding in some healthy fats to keep your body fuelled for the day. Adding your favourite salad items like lettuce, tomatoes or onions can add some flavour without adding on tons of extra calories. Plus, you can use a dressing to make it super tasty.

Protein Pancakes

Pancakes are a great, filling snack whatever time of the day you eat them! To make sure you get your protein fix, you can add a protein powder into the recipe to help boost your protein intake. Now you can get so many different flavours of protein including banoffee, apple pie and cinnamon, so you can make your pancakes taste delicious.

Hummus and Pita

A simple snack but one that will pack a punch! Hummus is a great source of sodium, potassium, protein, carbs, and fat – everything that you lose after a sweaty workout. Combining it with a wholemeal pita will keep you fuller for longer and provide essential carbs.

Tuna sandwich

This is quick to make, so you won’t be left starving for ages, plus, it’s a great source of protein. Tuna is a great food to add to your diet if you want to be healthier, as it’s rich in potassium which is known for lowering blood pressure. Not only that but it’s also full of Omega-3 which is important for a healthy heart. Adding this to a wholemeal or brown bread sandwich will give you the carbs you need too!

Protein Milkshake

If you have a sweet tooth, this will be perfect! By adding the protein powders we mentioned earlier to some milk, you will have yourself a healthy, delicious milkshake. Giving you your protein boost, plus milk is an effective drink to rehydrate you as it has high electrolyte content! Not only that but milk has also been shown to help reduce the sore muscles and muscle damage you can experience after exercise.

Apples and peanut butter

Super simple and super effective, apple slices with peanut butter! Peanut butter is naturally rich in protein and healthy fats that are good for your heart. The apple will help provide vitamins and will cure your sweet cravings.

Banana Omelette

This is delicious and a great way to add some carbs to your diet! They’re super easy to make, all you need is banana and eggs and you will end up with pancake-like consistency that will be filling and tasty.
